Cynical from Birth!
You know how your mother has those embarrassing photos of you when you were a child? We all have them and wish we could make them go away. Well, I was going through old pictures of me and came across one that made me laugh. This picture proves to everyone who sees it and knows me that I WAS BORN A CYNIC! Still to this day, I make the same face. My daughter calls it the "you're stupid, now go away" face. I think it's my "Really? Are you freaking serious?" face. What do you think?

Dead Tired
This week has been a long one and I'm exhausted. Sometimes I hate my MG so much I could scream but all that would do is make me even more tired. I have had Myasthinia Gravis for several years now and every day I am reminded of the simple things I CAN'T DO. Sure, I could focus on the things that I CAN DO, but that list is very short sometimes. The next time you take a shower and wash your hair, imagine your arms getting so tired you have to lean on the wall to hold them up or your fingers that are scrubbing your head stop working so you have to just rub your hands around your head like dead fish. Washing your hair seems simple enough until you can't do it. NO, I don't have that problem every day, but it happens enough to piss me off which perpetuates the problem.
Anyway, the picture that I am posting is more or less a wish. I wish I could sleep as soundly as this chick is and not have a worry in the world. But the truth is, I think this chick is just oblivious to the world around it. Either way, I'm freaking jealous.

Doomed Butterflies
I was living in Virginia and one night while doing laundry, I noticed a huge butterfly on the wall. It was February so it definitely took me by surprise. We chased it around the house before catching it and letting it outside, where it just sat on our porch until it died. It was too cold to survive. We figured it must have hatched inside the house where it was warmer but it didn't make it through the night outside.
This poor butterfly was minding it's own business hanging out on a purple flower when, BAM, it falls off the flower and lands in a spiders web. That's what I call one crappy day!

May 4, 2011 - Atmospheric Phenomenon
Hi everyone... This is Katherine. I just wanted to share some great shots I got this morning with my cell phone. In all the pictures there is a clear 22 degree halo around the sun and in the ones taken at sunrise a very bright upper tangent arc (pretty rare). Some sun rise photos include parhelion (sun dogs). There may be a possibly a 44 degree arc which is super rare but I only noticed it in images that I upped the contrast and it may be a camera artifact. These phenomenon are caused by tiny ice crystals in the air. The last picture was taken at 11:45 am and the halo was still there! All others around 7:30 am. The second to last picture has an outer area digital enhanced to make the 44 degree halo more visible.
22 = 22 degree halo
44 = 44 degree halo
P = Parhelion
UTA = Upper tangent arc
22 = 22 degree halo
44 = 44 degree halo
P = Parhelion

Wild River Waterfall
I love waterfalls. I hate the hike back up the mountain afterwards. You would think they could make these things a little easier for us to get too... I took this picture when we were about half way down and had to cross over a bridge. Where is the picture of the waterfall? Actually I don't know. I guess it wasn't that memorable.
